Summer is just around the corner and it looks like we might ACTUALLY get to celebrate the season with sun, sea, and sand! I don’t know about you, but I’m soooo ready for a vacation. 2021 has been a pretty busy year with the opening of Bella’s second location in Alpharetta, my new role as ambassador for Ignite Women (a project I’m so, so passionate about: check out this post to learn more), and of course, taking care of my family and farm!

I’m so excited to have vacations line up. Taking time to rest is a must when it comes to self-care, and believe it or not, slowing down can have incredible benefits on our overall health and skin. If you haven’t already, make sure you book that beach getaway you’ve had your eye on for a while. After the year we’ve had, you definitely deserve a break from your daily routine.

Rest is ESSENTIAL for healthy skin, and I can’t think of a better way to get some much-needed downtime than to lie under the sun for a few hours while I listen to the sounds of the ocean. One thing that’s not so great for our skin, though? The sun!

If you’re worried about your beach trip creating havoc on your skin, here are a few tips to get you prepared and ready to make the most out of your summer vacay without stressing over those UV rays!

Pre Beach Trip Essentials

1. If you have time, I recommend visiting Bella Medspa to prepare your skin to fight off those sun rays. I always like to get a Laser Genesis and a Hydrafacial MD treatment before I go anywhere where the sun’s rays might not be ideal. Both of these treatments will help your skin build collagen while also hydrating to make your skin look plump and juicy while maximizing sun protection.

2. Pack your vitamins. Seriously, don’t be like me: I always forget them! Your skin needs extra antioxidant protection when you’re out in the sun daily.

Layer that SPF

Apply SPF every two hours to make sure you are protected at all times. DON’T use cheap spray sunscreen on your face. I really like the image SPF 50 clear layered with Her Shade Original 45. For your body, I recommend Neutrogena Baby SPF 50 (the pink and white tube). I use it on my kids as well.

Use Vitamin C

Apply Vitamin C topically in serum and also orally (hello, fresh orange juice!) to protect your skin from the sun from the inside out. These are my favorite Vitamin C products:

Skinceuticals CE Ferulic - vitamin c serumSkinceuticals C E Ferulic

Skinceuticals C E Ferulic is one of the best vitamins for clear skin. This vitamin C serum helps neutralize free radicals induced by UVA/UVB, infrared radiation (IRA), and ozone pollution (O3), which may lead to visible signs of accelerated skin aging. In addition to antioxidant protective benefits, C E Ferulic improves signs of aging and photo-damage, the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and the loss of firmness, while brightening skin’s complexion.

For healthy skin, keep it hydrated with organic products

Keep your skin cool and hydrated with products from Farmhouse Fresh. If you know me, you know I live at a farm so I love all things that are organic and have that homemade feel to them. They make me feel soooo fresh! My current favorite is Guac Star (avocado) for hydration, Soothing Active Yogurt Mask for tightening, and Clarifying Mud Exfoliation Mask for toning and exfoliating my face.

Keep Your Skin Moisturized

I love using Be Glowy serum to keep my skin nourished and hydrated at all times while I’m at a tropical place. All I have to do is apply a few drops and my skin will stay moisturized for the entire day!

Stay Hydrated

The heat can dehydrate us pretty quickly and make us lose minerals (not to mention those dehydrating margaritas!). Drinking plenty of water is a must to keep your skin looking plump and healthy. I also recommend drinking tons of coconut water for extra electrolytes!

Protect Your Eyes

Protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses that block UV rays from the sun. I also love to use Obagi Elastiderm Eye Serum during and after a day spent at the beach. I use it year-round to reduce bags under the eyes and puffiness, but it also helps to prevent sun damage on your eyes.

After Your Vacation

After your vacation, get a Bella’s Lux Refreshing Laser Facial. This is our most popular laser facial treatment for anti-aging. It helps treat fine lines and wrinkles, reduce redness, hyperpigmentation, and pore size. There’s no downtime or pain, and your skin will look better right away!

If you’re planning a trip to the beach and have any skin concerns, don’t forget that we offer complimentary consultations at Bella to better help you target and treat your skin’s unique needs. We’re here to help and super excited to hear all about your trip, so don’t hesitate to book an appointment if you happen to be in Atlanta (we’re in Buckhead and Alpharetta!)
