While winter months tend to dry out our skin, the summer months bring a different set of circumstances we all need to be aware of. A little prep now will go a long way!
In the spring and summer our skin’s metabolism is naturally sped up. We produce more skin cells and collagen cells at a more rapid rate and sloughing off the old cells quicker than we do in winter. Because of this natural process, during the summer I reduce my exfoliating treatments like retinols, and focus on hydrating and calming the skin. Reducing inflammation is the name of the game to protect those delicate collagen cells!
“The fall, winter, and spring will account for at least 20% of the [UV] exposure that we have,” says Ron Shelton, MD, FAAD, FAACS, a board-certified dermatologist, and assistant professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. “Yet, there’s no doubt that the bulk of the sun damage happens in the summer months.”
So don’t forget to apply a high quality broad-spectrum sunscreen and preferably a prescriptive Vitamin C Serum every day, regardless if it is rainy, cloudy or sunny. And, don’t forget we now get UV exposure from our modern lightbulbs too!
Below are my recommendations to prepare you and make the most out of your summer vacay without stressing over those UV rays!
Laser Hair Removal.
Imagine how freeing it is to not worry about shaving, waxing or plucking all summer long! Laser Hair Removal is definitely something you want an experienced professional to do. I have provided laser skincare for nearly twenty years so you can rest easy. When you come in for your first appointment, you’ll go through a consultation and skin analysis to develop a skincare regime to ensure the best results. Remember: everyone’s skin has unique needs, so customizing each treatment is a must! Over the years, I personally designed Bella’s laser protocol and, to date, I only have happy (hair-free!) patients. Learn more here.
Hydrafacial and Laser Genesis.
Before you travel, get that dewy glow with two of our go-to treatments at Bella. For almost guaranteed radiance, the HydraFacial MD with Alastin’s TriHex Technology and laser genesis as part of our signature Refresh Laser Facial are perfect to alternate. These two services will set you up for a lasting glow throughout your summer holidays and beyond.
Lash Lift and Tint
One of the best things about summer skin is you can go make-up free and still look radiant! I use RetivaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner – and have for nine years – for stronger and longer lashes. I love the peptides and lipids in this eyelash conditioner. I also highly recommend Bella’s very own aesthetician Tammi for a lash lift and tint which is perfect for when you are swimming and don’t want to use mascara.
And finally, here’s my must-have summer vacay product list to keep my skin balanced, healthy and glowing!
