About ThermiVa
ThermiVa is a non-invasive and pain free treatment offered at our Buckhead and Alpharetta locations that uses gentle heating of the vulvar and vaginal tissues. This treatment shrinks the vaginal tissue, thus enhancing your sexual satisfaction as well as reducing urinary leakage, orgasm dysfunction, prolapse, vaginal laxity, and/or vaginal dryness because of childbirth or a change in hormone status.
ThermiVa is a temperature-controlled radiofrequency therapy. This type of treatment has been used safely in the cosmetic industry for years. For our Buckhead and Alpharetta clients, ThermiVa enhances collagen production, collagen remodeling, and tissue shrinkage – not only on the outer skin of the vagina, but also intravaginally.
How Does ThermiVa Work?
The controlled ThermiVa radiofrequency heat is applied intravaginally with a gentle and smooth probe. As the vaginal tissue shrinks, tightness is restored, sexual function is enhanced, and symptoms associated with prolapse and urinary leakage are reduced. The same probe is used externally where immediate remodeling of the labia occurs.
How Long Does a ThermiVa Treatment Take?
A ThermiVa treatment at our Buckhead or Alpharetta office takes 30 to 45 minutes. It is pain-free and requires no downtime recovery. Clients can resume regular activity and sexual function on the same day. ThermiVa treatments are gentle, relaxing, and feel like an internal warm massage. The results both inside the pelvis and on the external genitalia are often immediate, leaving women with an increased feeling of self-confidence. A total of three treatments are usually needed, spaced 30 days apart to ensure maximum effectiveness.
What Can ThermiVa Treat?
- Vaginal Tightness: Tightening occurs at the vaginal opening and throughout the full course of the vagina. Women and their partners notice these changes immediately after their ThermiVa treatments.
- Mild to Moderate Stress Incontinence/Over-Active Bladder: Reduces urinary leaking and urge. When ThermiVa is used with pelvic floor physical therapy, many women can avoid bladder surgeries like the mesh and sling.
- Sexual or Orgasmic Dysfunction: Treatments may increase nerve sensitivity, stronger pelvic floor muscular contractions, and the capability to achieve orgasms in a shorter period. ThermiVa treatments to the clitoral and g-spot areas are very safe.
- Labial Cosmetic Appearance: Tightens labial tissues and helps to reduce sagging, camel toe appearance, and results in smoother and softer skin. Women also have more comfort in tight clothing, such as bikinis, jeans, and leotards, and have less awareness.
- Vaginal Dryness/Atrophic Vaginitis: Vaginal moisture both inside and out increases and helps soften and thicken the vulva-vaginal skin. These changes lead to less sexual pain and more sexual satisfaction.
- Prolapse: The vulva-vaginal tissue tightens during ThermiVa treatments resulting in a tightening or pulling in of the prolapse organs. Research is showing an improvement in prolapse by as much as one grade reduction after ThermiVa therapy.
Am I a Candidate for ThermiVa?
The ideal ThermiVa candidates are women who are:
- Experiencing vaginal laxity and a loose or rubbing feeling.
- Displeased with the appearance of their labia majora, especially while wearing bathing suits, athletic attire, leggings, jeans, etc.
- Experiencing any sexual dysfunction or orgasmic issues.
- Having difficulty retaining tampons or may have pelvic prolapses, such as a fallen bladder or fallen rectum.
- Suffering from urinary leakage or stress incontinence.
- Suffering from dryness of their vagina or labia (atrophic vaginitis) because of menopause.
How Long Does ThermiVa Last?
Most of our Buckhead and Alpharetta ThermiVa clients come in for routine maintenance anywhere from nine to 12 months after their final procedure. However, some clients go as long as two years before maintenance treatment is needed.
What to Expect
Our Buckhead and Alpharetta ThermiVa clients say they will feel tighter immediately after treatments, but that it improves even more over time. Regarding incontinence, it is not unusual to have clients become dry immediately after their treatment, but most often the results are seen 24 hours later. For vaginal dryness, the moisture starts more dramatically at two weeks, and it may only be slightly improved after the first treatment and start presenting itself more significantly after the second or third treatment.
ThermiVa Aftercare for Our Buckhead & Alpharetta Clients
After your ThermiVa treatment at our Buckhead or Alpharetta office, you may resume normal daily activities. There are no restrictions for physical or sexual activity. You may feel the tightening effects the day of your treatment, but you might not experience significant changes for two weeks.
Some of our Buckhead and Alpharetta ThermiVa clients experience mild cramping the day of their treatments, but this usually resolves within 24 hours. If cramping persists, contact your physician. You should not see an increase or change in discharge. While some of our Buckhead and Alpharetta ThermiVa clients have called us about discharge, it is the gel used during treatment that is seeping out.
You can resume your normal activities of daily living immediately after your ThermiVa treatment at our Buckhead or Alpharetta location. This includes resuming sexual activity the same day if no abnormal bleeding occurs.
