You’ve Got Questions. We’ve Got Answers.
Is It Permanent?
Laser hair removal is permanent hair reduction, not permanent hair removal. Therefore, it is not uncommon for patients to require maintenance treatments once a year, even after the area has been fully treated. This is because while the laser targets and destroys your current hair follicles, new follicles can develop over time. Don’t let this discourage you as the process will still dramatically eliminate unwanted hair and diminish future growth with proper upkeep.
Does It Hurt?
The procedure can hurt but not a lot. It is universally described as a rubber band snapping against your skin. Keep in mind that the discomfort only lasts for a millisecond which is the time it takes for the laser to target your hair follicle and zap it away. This can be expected for each hair follicle that is zapped. While your skin may be a little red and puffy after the procedure, you shouldn’t feel any pain in the area by the time you leave the spa.
Will It Work on My Skin Type and Hair Color?
Laser hair removal works on almost every skin type—from the very light-skinned (or what’s known as Type I on the Fitzpatrick scale, a skin-typing test) all the way up to Type V or even VI (which is dark skin). While blonde, gray, or light red hair is difficult to treat, we use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to remove lighter hair. A complimentary consultation (link to schedule an app form) will asses your specific skin type and help you determine if laser hair removal is right for you.
How Long Does It Take?
The actual procedure time depends on the area being treated. Each hair follicle is zapped in a millisecond, so a small area such as your armpits will take less than five minutes to complete, while a larger area like your legs may take a half hour.
